ROCK grupları şarkıcı ve gitaristlerin kaçınılmaz aşkı : )

While researching on Rock history, I cannot help noticing:

The -apparently- irresistible bromance
between lead singers and guitarists of Rock bands.

 AEROSMITH
(aka Bad Boys from Boston)
(Formed in Boston in 1970)

 Steve Tyler & Joe Perry
of Aerosmith
(aka Toxic Twins)

Joe Parry says “It’s pretty much what it is. You can love your brother, but you don’t have to like him. We have our ups and downs. He’ll say stuff in the press and I’ll think, ‘What the hell is he talking about?’ Next time I see him, it’s all hugs and kisses.

THE ROLLING STONES
(Formed London in 1962)

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
of The Rolling Stones
The group, which has rocked since 1962, has always been powered by the classic singer-guitarist duo of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Together, they’re magnetic. Richards’s guitar lines wrap seductively around Jagger’s vocals seamlessly.

Richards was answering the often-posed question “What is the secret to your relationship with Mick Jagger?” Keith observes: “The secret is that neither of us knows what we’re going to do until we put ourselves together…and then just see what happens, it’s one of those things with the Stones collectively.”

LED ZEPPELIN
(Formed in London in 1968)

Robert Plant & Jimmy Page
of Led Zeppelin

"The two of us are almost umbilically attached in some strange way
and have been down the years.
And that's survived everything from the time I was 19 to now".
 Robert Plant.

“Pagey and I are closer than ever on this tour. (1975)” Plant said after the New York concert. “We’ve almost jelled into one person in a lot of ways.”
1975 New York concert rehearsal

Robert Plant with Jimmy Page t-shirt on.
Do you like Jimmy Page?
No, I love him.
We have had some amazing times and moments together.
It would be all wonderful to get through all the stuff as the years go by, and maybe that it will happen tomorrow, you know? I don't go visiting much, but I would be very happy to spend a couple of weeks on the top of Atlas Mountains with him before the end.

Robert and I have always had this understanding that is almost impossible to describe. - Jimmy Page

QUEEN
(Formed in London in 1970)

Freddie Mercury & Brian May
of Queen

What was your relationship with Freddie like once he became a band member? In a way, I was very close to Freddie, particularly in the songwriting area. In the beginning, it was only he and I that were writing the material, pretty much. We learned to interact in a very productive way without treading on each other’s toes. At its best it was a wonderful relationship, I must say. Some of my best times were producing a vocal out of Freddie, sort of coaxing him in various directions. A lot of the other best moments were Freddie doing the same for me the other way round, him saying, “Brian, why don’t you try this?” while I was doing the guitar solo. He loved what I did, which was very encouraging for me. He kind of saw me as his Jimi Hendrix, I think, which was very flattering for me. Most of my best guitar work was done on Freddie’s material because it was so inspiring. When it came to my own material, I was more concerned with the song.

The Bon Jovi frontman shares his thoughts on how it felt when former band mate Richie Sambora departed from the band in 2013.

“What was then, was then. And what is now, is now. You’ve never heard me say a bad word about the guy, I love him to death, but there was no way that I was going to be hindered by his departure,”
"When I met Jon, the reason I really enjoyed being with him and respected him is because he had talent, and mostly because he went for it!"

Slash says. "But there’s also a part of you that’s, like, in a marriage, where you love somebody; so there’s always that feeling, but then there’s all this negative stuff. There was so much stuff perpetuated in the media, and it was just blown out of proportion. So when he and I talked for the first time, it was really, really cool.”

Then I came across with this:

Deena Weinstein has discussed the relationship between singer and guitarist in heavy metal bands in a way that accords them equal importance:
In heavy metal there is an intimate connection between the vocals and the instruments, with the voice participating as an equal, not as a privileged instrument. The voice is an instrument that challenges the prominence of the guitar— Vocalist and guitarist are each accorded importance but neither is allowed to eclipse the other. The two are dual foci, like the twin foci of an ellipse, around which the music is described. The relationship between the guitar and vocals is one of tension; they dynamically contend with one another for dominance but never allow this continuous competition to result in the defeat of either guitarist or vocalist.

Deena Weinstein is a professor of sociology at DePaul University whose research focuses on popular culture. She is particularly well known for her research on heavy metal music, as she has published two books on the genre: Heavy Metal: A Cultural Sociology and Heavy Metal: The Music and Its Culture.
